World's first Sharing Economy Crowdsourced Accelerator

The People Who Share in partnership with Babele are launching the world’s first crowdsourced accelerator for social entrepreneurs in the Sharing Economy. The Sharing Economy is undoubtedly the biggest business trend of the last century; with €28 billion transactions in 2015 in Europe alone1, PwC say that it’s growing 20 times faster than they first predicted. But the Sharing Economy brings more than financial value – it brings social and environmental benefit; lowering carbon, increasing resource efficiency, diverting goods from landfill and bringing communities together to share cars, homes, goods, jobs and skills.

In 2015, one UK based social enterprise, FareShare delivered 18.3 million meals to people living in food poverty by diverting perfectly good food from landfill. Social enterprises like FareShare understand that the Sharing Economy offers so much more than financial value and has the potential to become a sustainable, fair and equitable new economy.
What’s clear though is that the Sharing Economy is in danger of not fulfilling its potential by failing to support social entrepreneurs who understand the importance of social and environmental value and how this benefits the economy and society at large.

To tackle this problem, Sharing Economy pioneers, The People Who Share and Babele, an online crowd-sourced, open innovation centre led by Emanuele Musa and Ruxandra Creosteanu have launched the world’s first crowd-sourced accelerator supporting social entrepreneurs in the Sharing Economy. 5 social enterprises will be selected to participate in the 6-week course with over 25 world-class business mentors from around the globe. The programme will combine 1-2-1 online mentoring sessions with crowdsourced mentor feedback on all aspects of the social venture including value proposition, business model, market analysis, customer validation and marketing strategy. The programme will follow a step-by-step business modeling methodology to share and stimulate mentor feedback. The end result will be 5 dynamic, validated social business models, refined by leveraging the collective intelligence of The People Who Share network and global Sharing Economy insights, putting the 5 social entrepreneurs on a path to success.

For the Sharing Economy to realize its true potential, we need to support ventures who understand that social and environmental impact is the key to building a sustainable, economy that is fair and equitable for all.

If you’re a social entrepreneur working on a Sharing Economy project and you’d like to snap up this amazing opportunity to have world-class mentors help develop your venture you can apply here. If you are a mentor who’d like to support this program, email: manu@babele.co stating who you are and what motivates you to support Sharing Economy social entrepreneurs.
